It’s an interesting time for consumers who love full-size pickup trucks. Pickup trucks have never been more advanced, comfortable and refined. The segment is more competitive than ever too, and there are so many excellent options on the market for almost all budgets. Electric pickup trucks are beginning to emerge as well, and Ram even has its own Ram Revolution pickup in the works. But it’s not yet clear when that vehicle will be available, and online market research shows that some drivers are searching for comparisons of the 2024 Ram 1500 vs 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV. That makes sense as many people who are considering an EV are deciding between making the switch now or next vehicle.
For Ram fans who will eventually transition to electric, we think the best choice is to choose the 2024 Ram 1500 now and then upgrade to the Ram Revolution when it becomes available, and the team at Melloy Ram can keep you updated with that information. The Ram Revolution will be the first electric pickup from the only dedicated truck brand, and that is exciting. In the meantime, the Ram 1500 gives you more traditional options. You have the choice of a quad cab with a 6-foot-4-inch bed or a crew cab with either that bed or a 5-foot-7-inch bed, and there is a wide range of exterior customization options. This is not the case with the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, which is only available with a crew cab with a 5-foot-11-inch bed. There is just one package currently and few options, and Chevrolet has opted for a sleeker, more futuristic look rather than the rugged pickup truck style that Americans seem to prefer.
While we don’t have the final specs for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, we do know that the crew cab is similar in size to the Silverado 1500, and that means that the Ram 1500 will have almost two additional inches of rear legroom. That’s a big difference and one of the reasons so many people choose the Ram crew cab over other model crew cabs. One way that the Silverado EV stands out is its cabin. The cabin is loaded with technologies and amenities, but the sticker price matters. Sure, you can get a minimalistic work truck with the Ram 1500, but you can also add all of the amenities and technologies that come with the Chevrolet. In fact, we think your dollar will go further with the Ram, and you’ll be able to spend less overall. It’s also important to note that GM EVs are not eligible for a tax credit.
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV is sold exclusively as four-wheel-drive pickup. The Ram 1500 is available with either rear-wheel our four-wheel drive. Beyond that, comparing the 2024 Ram 1500 vs 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV is difficult due to the fundamental differences. If traditional pickup capabilities matter to you, then the Ram is the clear winner. The Silverado EV currently tops out at 8,000 pounds, which is less than the Ram can achieve with the V6, and those who need more can opt for the V8, which allows for towing almost 13,000 pounds. Chevrolet has mentioned configurations with higher tow ratings, but we expect those packages to cost much more than the base model.
There is a lot we don’t know yet about the Silverado EV. It hasn’t been tested by either the IIHS or NHTSA. The Ram 1500, on the other hand, is one of the safest pickups on the road. The Ram also features the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, which is widely regarded as one of the most sophisticated and feature-rich implementations on the market. The Silverado EV will come standard with advanced driver-assistance technologies. Ram will continue to give you the choice. But if you do want them, all of the same advanced options are available, such as a head-up display and trailer reverse steering control.
