The Ford F-150 continues to be the most popular full-size pickup in America, and you now have the option of the 2024 Ford F-150 at area Ford dealerships. But the 2024 Ram 1500 now available at Melloy Dodge Albuquerque is the most critically acclaimed pickup, and it continues to gain market share on its Ford counterpart with each passing year. One reason for that is the design of its rear suspension, which provides ride comfort and handling the F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 can’t match. It does come at the cost of some towing and payload capability, and Ford will usually win when it comes to best-in-class accolades. But the Ram 1500 easily meets the towing and payload needs of the vast majority of drivers.
There are some notable differences to the cab and bed combinations when comparing the 2024 Ram 1500 vs 2024 Ford F-150. Ford offers a two-door regular cab, a two-door extended cab and a four-door crew cab. Ram no longer offers a regular cab because it’s so unpopular with non-fleet customers, but you still can get it via the Ram 1500 Classic. Ram does offer an extended cab but with four doors and smaller rear doors, and its crew cab is comparable to that of the Ford. Ram offers its extended cab with a bed that measures 6 feet 4 inches. Ford gives you the choice of an 8-foot or 6-foot-6-inch bed. Ram offers its crew cab with either a 6-foot-4-inch or a 5-foot-7-inch bed, and Ford offers its with either a 6-foot-6-inch or a 5-foot-6-inch bed.
All of these cabs from Ram and Ford provide similar headroom. You’ll also find that front legroom is the same for a make whether you opt for the extended, crew or, in the case of Ford, regular cab. The biggest difference when comparing the 2024 Ram 1500 vs 2024 Ford F-150 is that Ford provides more front legroom and Ram provides more second-row legroom. Front legroom is 41 inches in the Ram and 44 inches in the Ford. As for rear legroom, Ram gives you at least 2 inches more in both cabs.
The 2024 Ram 1500 is available with either a V6, which is standard, or a V8, which is optional. Both are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and give you the choice of rear- and four-wheel drive. Ram also has the eTorque system, which is standard with the V6 and optional with the V8, which does help to improve fuel performance. The 2024 Ford F-150 has a 10-speed automatic transmission with either rear- and four-wheel drive. A turbocharged V6 is standard. A V8 is optional and an even more powerful V6.
You’ll find similar technologies for the 2024 Ram 1500 at Melloy Dodge Albuquerque as the 2024 Ford F-150, such as automatic high-beam headlamps, forward collision warning with automatic braking and a monitor with either a rearview camera or a 360-degree surround-view camera. Outside of the monitor, Ram offers this equipment as an option. Ford includes much of it with its XL and XLT trim levels. Ford has also opted to include its Sync 4 system with a 12-inch touch screen. Ram does offer Uconnect 5 with a 12-inch touch screen but does not include it standard, which is a change we expect with the next generation.
