Exterior – 2020 RAM 1500

When you visit Melloy RAM to choose your truck, you will have a number of important options concerning the exterior. The truck is available with either a crew cab or a quad cab. There is a standard bed that measures 6 feet 4 inches and a shorter bed that measures 5 feet 7 inches. The quad cab comes with the standard bed, and the crew cab is available with either the standard or short bed. There are six trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Long Horn and Limited. The Rebel is an off-road edition that includes a great deal of trim-specific accents in addition to functional add-ons.

A 5.0-inch color touchscreen is standard on the Tradesman, Big Horn and Rebel. An 8.4-inch screen is available on the Big Horn and Rebel and becomes standard on the Laramie. A 12.0-inch touchscreen is available on all trim levels besides the Tradesman. The Laramie is really where the lineup takes a hard turn toward luxury. You get seats that are leather-trimmed, heated, ventilated and power-adjustable. The Longhorn adds leather bucket seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the Limited features accents throughout the cabin that are distinct to this top-of-the-line trim.

The RAM 1500 is available as either a 4×2 or 4×4 pickup truck, and many a 2020 RAM 1500 review has praised performance in both configurations. There is a but a single transmission available—a smooth eight-speed automatic—and this is true whichever of the three engines you choose. RAM offers a Trailer-Tow Group as well as a Max Tow Package. The Trailer-Tow group adds a Class IV hitch and towing mirrors. The Max Tow Package adds larger wheels and tires and adjusts the rear axle ratio. Towing capacity depends on a number of factors, but trucks with the gas V6 can get up to around 7,500 pounds. Trucks with the V8 or the diesel V6 can get up over 12,000 pounds.

The standard engine for the new 1500 is a 3.6L V6 with eTorque that delivers 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. The eTorque technology is a mild hybrid system that uses regenerative braking to improve fuel economy and add torque as well as provide other performance benefits. At all trim levels, you also have access to a 5.7L V8 that makes 395 hp and 410 lb.-ft. With the V8, you can opt for a version of the engine with eTorque or without it. The third engine in the lineup, which is also available at all trim levels, is a 3.0L EcoDiesel that makes 260 hp and 480 lb.-ft.

The base trim features a 5.0-inch touchscreen and a rearview camera for parking. Starting with the Big Horn, an 8.4-inch and 12.0-inch touchscreen become available, and the 8.4-inch setup is standard on the Laramie and up. The Tradesman also features trailer sway control. The Laramie gives you access to a Driver Confidence equipment package that boasts blind-sport monitoring, forward collision warning and lane keeping assist systems. A four-corner air suspension is available and standard on the Limited.
