The 2022 Ram 2500 available at Melloy Dodge is a critically acclaimed HD pickup, and that acclaim includes being selected as an Editors’ Choice by Car and Driver. As the new model year HD pickups begin to arrive, there are some fantastic deals available on this current Ram 2500. Is the additional expense worth it? With that in mind, we’re going to compare the 2022 Ram 2500 vs 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD. Ram offers the Ram 2500 in six trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Power Wagon, Laramie, Limited Longhorn and Limited. Chevrolet offers the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD in five trim levels: WT, Custom, LT, LTZ and High Country.
Ram offers the 2022 Ram 2500 in three cab configurations: a traditional two-door regular cab, a four-door crew cab and an even bigger version of that crew cab called the Mega Cab. Ram has eliminated the concept of an extended or double cab from its lineup, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see Chevrolet, GMC and Ford follow suit in the future. For the time being, Chevrolet offers the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD with a two-door regular cab, a four-door double cab with half-size rear doors and a four-door crew cab. Ram offers three bed lengths: 76 and 96 inches. The regular cab gets the longer bed. The Mega Cab gets the shorter bed, and the crew cab gives you the choice of bed. Chevrolet also offers two bed lengths: 82 and 98 inches. The regular cab comes with the longer bed, and both the double cab and crew cab give you the choice of bed length.
Both Ram and Chevrolet offer many options when it comes to the cabin. If you want a minimalistic work truck, you have that option, but you can also outfit your pickup as the ultimate office on wheels or with an interior that rivals even high-end executive sedans. Concerns that all buyers will have in common when comparing the 2022 Ram 2500 vs 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD are seating capacity and legroom. The Chevrolet regular cab has a bench seat for three passengers. Ram gives you the option of a bench seat or bucket seats with its regular cab. With both automakers, you have that option for all other cabs and thus either five- or six-passenger seating. The Silverado does provide more front legroom, but Ram provides more than enough for most drivers at 41 inches. Rear legroom is comparable in the larger cabs with both offering more than 43 inches, but the Chevrolet middle cab is much smaller than it’s Ram counterpart, which offers 5 inches additional legroom.
Both the 2022 Ram 2500 and 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD offer substantial towing and payload capabilities. Ram does deliver more at the highest end of the spectrum, but most customers will be at the other end or in the middle. In both cases, rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is optional. The standard engine is a V8 in both cases, but Ram offers a more sophisticated eight-speed transmission as opposed to the six-speed found in the Chevrolet.
Melloy Dodge offers a 5-inch, 8.4-inch and 12-inch infotainment touch screen. Chevrolet offers a 7-inch and 8-inch touch screen. With both models, advanced driver assists are optional for the most part but are added as standard equipment as you move up the trim levels. Similar technologies are available in both cases, including a digital rearview mirror, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring.
