If you’re interested in an HD pickup truck that delivers serious capabilities, then you’ll be excited to learn that the 2023 Ram 3500 is now available at Melloy Ram to purchase and lease. There are five core trim levels available to personalize, and those are the Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Limited Longhorn and Limited. If you’re shopping all of the options in this space, then you may be considering the 2023 Ford F-350 as well. Comparing the 2023 Ram 3500 vs 2023 Ford F-350 is particularly interesting this model year as Ford has introduced a new generation with a redesigned exterior and more options. With the F-350, you have the choice of six trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited.
Ram takes a different approach with the 2023 Ram 3500 than the other HD pickup manufacturers in that it doesn’t offer an extended cab but rather two four-door crew cabs—with one simply being bigger than the other—in addition to a traditional two-door regular cab. Ram offers two bed lengths: a standard bed that measures 6 feet 4 inches and a long bed that measures 8 feet. The regular cab is paired exclusively with the long bed. The smaller crew cab gives you the choice of bed, and the Mega Cab is paired exclusively with the standard bed. The three cab options for the 2023 Ford F-350 are a two-door regular cab, a two-door extended cab called the SuperCab and a four-door crew cab called the SuperCrew. Ford offers a standard bed that measures 6 feet 9 inches and a long bed that measures 8 feet. Your bed choices with the Ford model are comparable to those that Ram offers with its cabs.
If you want a spartan cabin for use on a jobsite or prefer a luxury cabin loaded with the latest creature comforts and technologies, you have those options with both the 2023 Ram 3500 and 2023 Ford F-350 in addition to loadouts that are somewhere in between. For most customers, this choice will come down to seating capacity and legroom, and the Ram and Ford are rather comparable. Both offer about 40 inches of headroom. The Ford does offer a bit more front legroom, but the Ram accommodates most drivers at about 41 inches. The regular cab seats up to three. The extended and crew cabs can seat either five or six depending on your choice of front seating. The Mega Cab and SuperCrew are similar in that they provide more than 43 inches of second-row legroom. The middle cabs are where Ram is a clear winner as it provides about 7 inches of additional legroom in addition to independent ingress and egress.
This is certainly a focal point of any 2023 Ram 3500 vs 2023 Ford F-350 comparison because drivers shopping this space want to know what the capabilities are. These models are quite similar. Ram offers a maximum tow rating of 37,090 pounds and a maximum payload rating of 7,680 pounds. The new F-350 has set the new bar for best in class but is only nominally better at 40,000 and 8,000 pounds.
Melloy Ram includes a 5-inch touch screen with the base model and an 8.4-inch touch screen starting with the Laramie. You also have the option of a 12.0-inch touch screen, which becomes standard with the Limited. Ford offers an 8-inch and a 12-inch touch screen. Both Ram and Ford include forward collision mitigation and a rearview camera system, and additional tech is available as options and by moving up the trim levels. If you were to select the top trim and all of the driver assists, both models would be similar, but Ram does provide more advanced trailering-assistance technologies.
