The 2025 model year is an exciting one for the team at Melloy Ram and our customers because the fifth Ram 1500 generation is getting a mid-cycle refresh, including a new top-spec trim level called the Tungsten. Ram will also be introducing the Ram 1500 REV and Ram 1500 Ramcharger. Both of these are firsts for the American automaker. The 2025 REV will be Ram’s first all-electric pickup ever, and the 2025 Ramcharger will be the brand’s first plug-in hybrid pickup ever. In this 2025 Ramcharger review, we’ll focus on the latter and share with you what we know so far about this new Ram PHEV.
The crew cab will have four full-size doors. The standard model will give you the option of either a 6-foot-4-inch bed or a 5-foot-7-inch bed. Videos and photos thus far have confirmed the short bed for the 2025 Ramcharger. There is no official word yet whether the longer bed will be offered. Aluminum wheels will be standard. The Tradesman will have 18-inch wheels. The Limited and Tungsten will have 20-inch wheels. You’ll also have many of the same exterior options found on the standard model, such as tonneau covers, running boards, bed steps, splash guards and so forth.
The 2025 Ramcharger will be offered exclusively with the crew cab, at least initially, and the cabin will be identical to the refreshed cabin for the standard Ram 1500 model in 2025. Front headroom and legroom are 40.9 inches in both cases. Second-row headroom is 39.8 inches, and second-row legroom is an impressive 45.2 inches. During the inaugural model year, the Ramcharger will be offered through Melloy Ram in three core trim levels: Tradesman, Limited and Tungsten. The Tradesman will have a rugged vinyl interior. The Limited will have leather seating, and the Tungsten boasts premium leather.
An important note for this early 2025 Ramcharger review is the Ramcharger is a plug-in hybrid and therefore needs to be recharged. Level 1 charging will be included. Level 2 and Level 3 charging will at least be available and may be included. There is no word on charging times yet outside of the fact that you can add 50 miles of range at a public charging station in about 10 minutes.
The Ramcharger will have the same Pentastar 3.6L V6 engine found in the standard model. The main difference is that power from the V6 isn’t sent directly to the axles. Instead, it powers a generator that recharges the onboard battery pack. That battery pack powers a front electric motor and a rear electric motor and thus four-wheel drive is standard. Combined output is 663 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque. Maximum towing is a best-in-class 14,000 pounds, and maximum payload is a best-in-class 2,625 pounds.
Uconnect 5 with a 12-inch touch screen will be standard. A 14.5-inch touch screen will be optional. A 10.3-inch passenger-oriented touch screen will be available as well. Full standard driver assists have not yet been announced. We know that automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning with assist are standard and that adaptive cruise control is optional. You can also expect options like a head-up display, rearview camera mirror and advanced trailering tech.
